So here comes the second part.
I had chalked everything I needed to talk about in this blog but failed to get a proper introductory note. Had spoken so much in the previous post that I kinda fell blank. So I surfed through a few blogs and I noticed that I was losing interest when the introduction stretched too long… That’s why they say the smaller the better!
And after giving a lot of thought I decided on keeping this one as short as possible on the introductory part and talk more on the main subject.
In my previous blog I have stressed on how exfoliating, cleansing, toning and moisturizing is the key to having a good skin. I shall stand by my words and shall give u homemade tricks I followed all this while.
Trust me, it’s been just a while I have started using store bought products. All this while I have always relied on my pantry and I still do. Nature has everything you need to take care of youself and the results are slow and steady and amazing!
Starting with the regime…
Cleansing – Its only recently that I have started using L’Oreal Paris gentle cleansing milk , but milk still remains my favourite cleanser! The best part of milk as a cleanser is that, its good for all skin types.
- Take raw(not boiled) and cold milk in a bowl , soak a cotton ball in the milk and dab it on your face and neck. Let it stay till it dries up and repeat. Wash off with normal water. You will be amazed to see how soft it leaves your skin.
However if you have very oily skin you can add gramflour to the milk and make a smooth paste. Apply this on your face, let it stay for 2 to 3 minutes and wash off.
And if your skin is very dry then I would suggest you mix honey and milk and apply on your skin , repeat and wash off.
Exfoliator – Exfoliation is equally important for your skin and it is always good to use products that scrubs your face and is very gentle. If your scrub is too harsh, on the long run it shall lead to darkening your face. *Always see that your body and face tone compliment each other.
The peeling gel I am using is good but nothing shall replace my pantry products when it comes to my favourite scrub. And once a week I scrub my body too. Sugar, salt , rice flour are some of my favorite scrubs.
- Take sugar and olive oil(bio oil is another awesome alternative) in a bowl and make a paste. Rub this mixture on your face in circular motion very gently. Wash off after 10 mins.
- Salt can be used in the same way.
- Rice flour however is my favourite exfoliator in my pantry. I make a paste of honey, milk and rice flour for my face and if I am using it as a body scrub I add coconut/olive oil.
I am recently located at a place where I am surrounded by beauty conscious women and I have discovered a shop where this lady brings the best products from Korea, Thailand, Taiwan and even China. And in one of my random haul I came across something that I had never seen before—
Well if u can’t find a lip scrub in the market, it is not tough to make your own—
- Make a smooth paste with sugar and honey and rub softly on your lips. And if you feel your lips have turned dark with time, add a few drops of lemon juice to the scrub u have made.
Toner – Toner is something that is refreshing to use… I love using it throughout the day. I am currently using Himalaya toner and it works amazingly for me but another stuff that I just love using is —
- Wet a cotton ball with it and apply on your face.The smell goes away after few seconds. Voila!!
Other ingredients from your pantry:–
Lemon – The health benefits of lemons are due to its many nourishing elements like vitamin C, vitamin B6, vitamin A, vitamin E, folate, niacin thiamin, riboflavin, pantothenic acid, copper, calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium, zinc, phosphorus and protein. Amazing isn’t it?!
But while lemon is one miraculous ingredient for your skin , make sure to not use it directly on your face. Use it with plain water,rose water, honey and any oil of your choice. No matter which way you use it, the effects are going to be visible.
If you are using lemon make sure you do not expose yourself to the sun.So its always better to use it at night or in the evening.
Olive Oil- Olive oil contains 3 major antioxidants- Vitamin E, Polyphenols and Phytosterols. No wonder it was called ‘liquid gold’ in the ancient world.
When you are buying olive oil for your skin , go for extra virgin olive oil. And the benefits you get –
- Moisturizes skin.
- Has anti aging properties.
- Improves skin texture.
- An excellent makeup remover.
My favourite way of using olive oil is… After you have taken shower, leave your skin a little damp and olive oil on your face and body. Stay for 5 – 10 mins and wash off. You can do this the day you are conditioning your hair. Takes no extra time.
Curd – Curd is one food that has Vitamin D, Protein and Calcium in adequate form, and thus makes an excellent product for skin health. The goodness inclused
- Minimizes blemishes.
- Tones freckles and wrinkles.
- Moisterizes and Exfoliates your skin.
- Effective treatment for sunburn.
I do not use curd directly on my face but I use it for making face packs and in summers I use it with a little toner to fight sun tan.
There are a lot more home-made remedies that you can find in youtube, but in this blog I have discussed about the ones I use. The ones which are tried and tested by me and I have seen results.
